Kirklees Light Railway

On Wednesday we visited the Kirklees Light Railway. We were incredibly lucky with the weather and avoided any rain! When we arrived we rode on a mini steam train through some beautiful countryside and the UK's longest, narrow tunnel (apparently). The cheeky driver turned the lights off to show us just how dark it was in there! When we arrived at Shelley station the train driver asked for 2 strong volunteers to help turn the engine around. Thankfully, Owen and Shanti stepped up and did a marvellous job using their huge muscles. We then rode the train back and had a spot of lunch on an old train carriage. In the afternoon, we rotated through 3 activities: a tour of the engine shed, a ride on a mini train around the duck pond and a play on the adventure playground. Everyone had a fantastic time and quite a few children had a little booster nap on the way home!
