Last week, the Year 5 children participated in the first of three WW1 workshops in conjunction with Sunnybank Mills. To start our project, the children spent the morning in the Sunnybank Mills Archive Centre studying a range of primary sources. There were numerous volunteers at the mill who showed us the many wonderous artefacts and the children asked the adults lots of questions. Irene Lofthouse (who played Nancy the mill worker) told the children about life at the mill during World War One and talked about the impact the war had on Farsley. We then had a go at weaving materials to create our own observation baskets before designing our own WW1 sweetheart brooches. The children are very much looking forward to their next workshop!
