The large majority of children who join us in Year 3 come from Westroyd Infant School. We have a strong working relationship with Westroyd and have developed a transition programme aimed to ensure that all children can feel confident and secure when they arrive in September to join our Year 3 classes.
During the final half term when the children are in Year 2 there are several things that we organise to help the children become more familiar with our school and staff.
Additional transition work
In partnership with the Pudsey Cluster, Family Support workers and Westroyd staff identify a small group of children who may need some extra support with transition. This can be for a variety of reasons including confidence levels. This small group of children have a weekly session around moving schools, the first three are held at Westroyd and the final three are held at Springbank. This was really successful last year and increased the confidence levels of the children involved.
Parents/Carers
In the Spring term we write to parents/carers and invited them to come and have a look around the school. This is open to all parents. Many parents are already familiar with our school as they have older siblings with us however for those parents/carers whose first child is joining us it is an opportunity to meet us and get a feel for our school.
For the parents and carers of children who will be joining us in the September, we hold a New Parents Evening in July. Prior to the meeting all new parents will receive our school prospectus. At this meeting, parents meet the Year 3 staff and Leadership team. We share information about our school and parents can ask questions. There is an opportunity to have a look round the school, in particular the Year 3 classrooms. At the end of the evening, parents are able to come and discuss any individual concerns/worries they may have with staff.
Our main aim is too ensure that all children feel confident, secure and happy when they join us. If you have any questions regarding your child joining us in Year 3, please do not hesitate to contact us on 0113 2558719.
