Below are videos of our year 6 pupils taking you through some of the written methods we use when recording different calculations. These are great to go to as a refresher to see how the children should record their working out and final answers to different calculations. As I'm sure you will understand, lots of prior learning takes place in class around place value and understanding number which precedes the use of these written methods. For example when the children talk about 'adding 3 and 8' in the tens column they are aware that this represents adding 30 and 80; similarly when 'adding 7 and 4' in the hundreds column they are aware that this represents adding 700 to 400 which is 1100 (eleven hundreds or one thousand one hundred). If you have any questions regarding the language or teaching methods used please contact either your child's class teacher or Miss Jenkins, our maths leader who will be happy to help.
