Alongside spotting a wonderful variety of local wildlife, the children represented our school brilliantly with exemplary behaviour throughout the walk. It was especially rewarding to hear them make meaningful connections to our curriculum drivers completely unprompted—confidently pointing out moments where they showed determination, pushed themselves as sensible risk-takers and collaborated effectively as a team. We are incredibly proud of their maturity and enthusiasm!

For the last couple of months Year 4 have been planting hundreds of seeds, bulbs and tubers, all of the edible kind. They have sown tomatoes, carrots, celery, beetroot, lettuce, chard, cucumbers, onions, garlic, potatoes, peas, beans, spinach, chillis, pak choi and kholrabi! They have now started to pick out seedlings, pot plants on into bigger pots and plant some of the hardier vegetable plants out into the garden. Already we are seeing pods form on some of the bean and pea plants! Along the way they are learning about how growing their own fruit and vegetables can contribute to healthy, sustainable living such as eating seasonally, cutting down on air miles, not using pesticides and using less plastic.
