This week in Year 2 we began an exciting new maths unit all about measuring. The children were introduced to using a ruler and measuring in centimetres and they showed great accuracy when measuring a variety of objects in the playground. We also practised measuring in metres and discussed when each unit of measurement might be used.
In writing, we continued exploring The Magic Paintbrush but this time we looked at an alternative version by Julia Donaldson. The children compared the two versions and shared thoughtful ideas about which one they preferred and why.
In art, we continued developing our skills in creating texture and pattern. The children experimented with different techniques, including hatching and we were very impressed with the care, focus and attention to detail everyone showed.
On Thursday we celebrated World Book Day. The children came dressed as their favourite story characters and enjoyed many opportunities to read throughout the day. We also spent time discussing our favourite books and testing our knowledge of some classic stories. To finish the celebration, we proudly recited a poem in assembly that we have been practising.
