Spring 2 Week 2

This week the children had the exciting opportunity to come to school dressed up for World Book Day. We saw some fantastic costumes and took lots of opportunities to read and immerse ourselves in stories and books throughout the day. Each class from Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 performed a poem in assembly that they had been learning and we were really impressed with their enthusiasm and how well they knew their poems.

In English, the children learnt how to add s or es to nouns to make the into plurals. They also designed their own alien character and wrote sentences to describe it using adjectives. There were lots of incredible ideas and the aliens looked fantastic. We will be writing stories about our aliens very soon!

In maths, we started a new unit - Place Value to 50 where the children were asked to count forwards and backwards up to 50. Counting backwards is a very tricky skill and we were impressed with the children's resilience in tackling this.

In Computing, the children continued to learn how to program a Beebot and make it move giving the exact commands it needs. We also talked about using the X clear button to reset the instructions before giving new ones. The children went outside and acted as Beebots moving around a grid following instructions from their friends.
