A Festive Farewell Before the Christmas Break
This week we put on our production, Mary’s Knitting. We are so proud of all the children in their very first school show. The children have put 100% effort into learning their lines, new songs and actions -what stars!
It has been a fun and busy week, filled with rehearsals and performances, creating Christmas cards and calendars, and enjoying our Christmas party. The children are now definitely ready for a well-earned break, and we hope you all have a wonderful Christmas full of fun and special family time.
This week in maths
We have been continuing to consolidate our knowledge of numbers to 5, solving problems involving adding, subtracting and sharing. Over the holidays, you might enjoy counting Christmas presents or how many sprouts are on your plate at Christmas dinner. You could also try sharing out Christmas sweeties equally or unequally and talk with your child about how they know which amounts are the same and how they can tell.
This week in Understanding the world
In Understanding the World, we have been learning about how Christians celebrate Christmas. The children have learnt about the Christian story of Christmas and thought about what gifts were brought to Jesus and compared them to gifts that we would buy new born babies now.
After the holidays…
In maths, the children will be developing their subitising skills within 5, focusing on recognising quantities using die patterns and matching numerals to amounts. They will also become more familiar with comparing mass, using balance scales to distinguish between different quantities on either side.
When we return after the holidays, our topic Looking After Farsley will see the children learning about where our rubbish goes, how and what we can recycle, and beginning to understand pollution and how we can help care for our environment.
Thank you for all the gifts, vouchers and cards you have sent in this week. As always, we don’t expect anything at all but we really do appreciate it.
We hope you have a lovely Christmas.
