Stories Come Alive: Reception’s Playhouse Visit
This week, Reception enjoyed an exciting trip to Leeds Playhouse where they watched Stick Man. The children were full of smiles as they followed Stick Man’s adventure and joined in with the lively songs and actions.
This week in maths
This week, the children have been recapping how numbers up to 5 are made up of two smaller numbers. We have explored different ways of representing the number 5 and have been reviewing 1 more and 1 less. The children have particularly enjoyed creating their own number stories around 5.
You could try this at home! Collect 5 teddies or figures and create two “spaces” for them, such as a comfy chair and a little den made from cushions. Then, tell a story about where your teddies are. For example: “Two teddies decided to sit on the chair and read a story together, while three teddies snuggled up in the den. Two and three together make 5.” Encourage your child to explore different combinations: How many ways can you make 5?
This Week in Talk for Writing
This week in Talk for Writing, the children have been innovating the story of Dear Zoo. They came up with lots of different animals to create a new version of the story. Some of the animals included bats, cats, dogs, rats, pigs, bugs and many more! The children also thought of new describing words to make their stories even more exciting. We also explored the story of Dear Santa and talked about how this is another example of an innovative story, helping the children understand how stories can be changed and adapted in fun ways.
Next week…
In maths, we will continue exploring number combinations up to 5, helping the children become confident in finding all the ways numbers can be made. We will also have fun learning how to share objects equally between two groups, practising our counting and teamwork skills.
In Understanding the World, we will be diving into the magic of Christmas! The children will hear the nativity story and explore how Christians celebrate Christmas. Children will discover new traditions and share ideas about how people celebrate this festive season.
Reminders
We hope you have a lovely weekend.
