It has been another busy and engaging week in Year 3!
In Writing, the children have been practising how to use ‘a’ and ‘an’ correctly. They also generated a wide range of expanded noun phrases in preparation for writing their own setting descriptions based on our class novel, The Creakers, next week.
In Maths, the children explored equivalent fractions, using fraction walls to help them visualise how different fractions can represent the same value. They then moved on to mass and capacity, taking part in a fun, practical lesson outside where they used measuring jugs and weighing scales to recap their prior learning through play-based activities.
In Science, the focus was on magnets in real life. The children learnt about how magnets are used in different contexts, including recycling centres, maglev trains, MRI scanners and compasses. They then took part in a range of hands-on activities to explore how magnets work.
This week, 3M enjoyed an exciting trip to Leeds City Museum, where they took part in an Ancient Egyptian workshop. The children completed activity booklets throughout the day and especially enjoyed the mummification workshop in the afternoon.
In Art, the children practised using watercolours. They went outside to gather colour inspiration from natural objects and experimented with mixing and blending colours, developing their artistic skills.
It has been a fantastic week of hands-on learning, creativity and exploration in Year 3!
