It has been another busy and creative week in Year 3!
In Writing, the children have been practising using expanded noun phrases and conjunctions to prepare for writing a setting description of Lucy’s bedroom from our class story, The Creakers. They have worked hard to add detail and interest to their sentences, ready for their final piece.
In PE, the children have continued developing their skills in tennis, beginning to volley the ball to a partner over a centre line. In gymnastics, they explored a range of hoop skills, including moving the hoop around different parts of their body, spinning it while balancing, and rolling it accurately to a partner.
In Art, the focus was on layering paint. The children created a colour-washed background before adding detail on top using different colours, taking inspiration from the work of Claude Monet.
In Geography, the children explored how our local area, Farsley, has changed over time. They looked at maps to understand how it developed from a hamlet to a village and discussed how land use has changed.
Year 3 also enjoyed an exciting geography fieldwork trip to Pudsey town centre, where they brought their classroom learning to life! During a guided walk around the area, the children carefully observed and identified different types of land use, linking directly to their current geography topic. They explored examples of leisure, commercial, residential, industrial and even agricultural spaces, developing their understanding of how land is used within a local environment.
The children showed great enthusiasm and curiosity, asking thoughtful questions and making excellent observations along the way. To round off a fantastic trip, everyone enjoyed some well-earned time playing in the park, making it a fun and memorable day for all!
In PSHE, the children revisited the effects of smoking and discussed ways people can access support to help them quit, developing their understanding of making healthy choices.
It has been a fantastic week of creativity, teamwork and thoughtful learning in Year 3!
