Year 5 have been so lucky this week to work alongside a real artist to help design and make a mosaic which will form the basis for the Leeds Book Award trophy!
The Leeds Book Awards project runs from May to October 2023; children and young people will enjoy reading and reviewing the best books of 2022. There are 6 categories from Early Years through to Key Stage 4, bringing children and young people together from across the city. The Leeds Book Awards are presented by Leeds Libraries in partnership with LEEDS 2023.
Its aims are to:
• Promote libraries and encourage reading for pleasure for all children.
• Celebrate the best of newly published children’s literature across all key stages.
• Champion books which celebrate diversity in terms of authorship, character, and/or genre.
• Increase the awareness of teachers, librarians, parents and children of children’s books and reading.
• Provide the opportunity for active participation of children and young people in reading, reviewing, debating and voting for their favourite books.
• Develop opportunities for children to meet and engage with children’s authors and illustrators.
