Summer 2 Week 3

This week in Year 5, we have enjoyed another busy and exciting week packed full of memorable experiences. From erupting our volcanoes to climbing Pen-y-ghent, the children have demonstrated fantastic resilience, enthusiasm and determination throughout all of their learning.

In topic, we finally put our volcano models to the test by creating our own eruptions using bicarbonate of soda and vinegar. The children were thrilled to watch their volcanoes fizz, bubble and overflow as they recreated a volcanic eruption. This hands-on investigation helped bring our learning about natural disasters to life and allowed the children to observe some of the processes involved in an eruption. They were incredibly proud of the volcanoes they had designed, built and painted over the past few weeks.

One of the highlights of the week was 5W's incredible climb up Pen-y-ghent. The children showed outstanding perseverance, teamwork and determination as they tackled the challenging route. Despite the steep sections and changeable conditions, they supported one another throughout the day and represented the school brilliantly. Reaching the summit was a fantastic achievement and one that they should all be very proud of.

This week has also been assessment week. The children approached their assessments with maturity and a positive attitude, demonstrating all of the hard work they have put into their learning this year. We have been particularly impressed with their determination and focus, as well as the effort they have shown in preparing for and completing each assessment.

In DT, we launched our exciting new project by beginning to design and create our own shoes. The children have started learning key sewing techniques and have practised using needles and thread carefully and safely. They are already showing great creativity with their designs and we are looking forward to seeing their finished products take shape over the coming weeks.

In Spanish, we have been learning vocabulary linked to food and drink. The children practised speaking, listening and reading activities to help them remember new words and phrases. They enjoyed applying their knowledge in conversations and games and are becoming increasingly confident when communicating in Spanish.
