Spring 1 Week 4

Spring 1 Week 4

This week Year 6 have thrown themselves into their learning with the determination and hard-working attitudes we have come to expect from a fabulous year group.

In writing, we have started a new unit of writing based on the creatures of Camp Green Lake. We have been using colons and semi-colons to write extended lists, punctuating them accurately and describing the key features of the creatures. We then took two of the animals and created our own crazy, hybrid creatures. Over the next 2 weeks we will be writing a non-chronological report about them before running our 'Appearance' paragraphs through AI to create a picture of it!

This week in maths we have started our brand new unit on algebra which caused a few nerves to begin with but these soon disappeared once they began their learning and found that it wasn't as hard as they had expected. Algebra is always the Year 6 maths topic that seems the most daunting but the children's progress has been exceptional and they should be very proud of how much progress they have made in a short space of time.

On Friday afternoon, we were lucky enough to take part in a zoom with a Holocaust survivor. They shared their poignant story with us in the week of Holocaust Memorial Day and answered questions from the hundreds of schools watching. It was fantastic to hear first hand from someone and hear their perspective of how it affected their lives at the time, and beyond. The children listened brilliantly and asked some very thoughtful, respectful questions.

Alongside our core learning, we have also explored the role of Highwaymen in the history of Crime and Punishment, taken part in an extremely soggy but worthwhile outdoor learning session, continued with our reading of Holes, revisited scientific symbols for electrical circuits and taken part in wake up, shake up!

Well done on another fantastic week of learning, Year 6. Have a fabulous, restful weekend and we'll see you next week for another jam-packed week!
