Year 3 and 4 Cricket

On Tuesday 20th June, a group of Year 3 and 4 children were invited to Bodington Football Hub to take part in an 'Under 9's Kickabout'. The weather conditions weren't great, however that did not dampen the children's spirits as they were all very excited to be on the astroturf! We played a few games however the emphasis of this was participation so we didn't keep count of the goals scored. All of the children played so well, Miss Robertson and Miss Brayshay were incredibly impressed by everyone's determination and sportsmanship throughout the matches. Well done!

KS2 Mini Olympics

On Thursday 15th June, a group of Year 4 and 6 children went down to Crawshaw for a 'Mini Olympics'. The emphasis on this session was 'develop and play' so it was not competitive, but gave the children an opportunity to have a go at some of the events they might be doing when they go to the actual event later this month. They had chance to practise the triple jump, javelin, relays and throwing. All of the children engaged really well and we are now all very excited for the real thing!

The children played in 8 matches, winning many of those and finishing in 4th place overall. All the children said that they really enjoyed their morning and came back to school with a huge smile on their faces and big medals around their necks - well done!

Girls Football

On Thursday, a group of Year 6 girls went down to Crawshaw for a competitive football event. The weather conditions were great, the sun had disappeared making it nice and cool with no wind. It was a busy one with 10 teams from schools in the Leeds West Partnership. The first match was against Pudsey Lowtown which we won 1-0 with a great goal from Lola. The second match was even more successful against Parkspring which we won 2-0. Although the third match was a draw, 0-0 against Bolton Royd we managed to qualify for the semi final against Farsley Farfield. This was a tense match which went to penalties at full time. Bethanie was fantastic in goal and alongside the rest of the team we made it to the final against Calverley CofE! Isla scored the winning goal in this match to end with a score of 1-0 and make us the winners! All the girls played incredibly and it was so fantastic to watch! Well done!

Well done Springbank!

Girls Football Skills Session

On Tuesday, a group of girls went down to Crawshaw school for a girls football skills session. The emphasis on this event was participation and to 'inspire and engage' the girls to continue their physical activity journey. A lot of the girls who attended did not take part in football outside of school and this gave them the opportunity to have a go, without any pressure. The children took part in three activities, focusing on dribbling, keeping possession of the ball and space and ended with a football match. Everyone finished saying that they really enjoyed themselves, hopefully will go on to try football outside of school!

Year 5 and 6 Handball

On Thursday 23rd March, Year 5 and 6 went down to Crawshaw for a handball event. The weather conditions were great. Despite the showers earlier in the day, the sun stayed out for the whole event which made it even more enjoyable! This event was an 'inspire and engage' which aims to get children enthusiastic about the sport, without it being too competitive. We played 3 matches against Greenside, Calverley Parkside and Southroyd. Although no official score was kept, we scored in each game! All the children worked really well together and all finished with a huge smile on their faces. Well done!

KS2 Ice Skating at Planet Ice

On Monday 30th January, some children from KS2 went to Planet Ice for a 'come and try' ice skating event. A lot of the children who came had never been ice skating before so understandably there were a few nerves before however these quickly disappeared when they got onto the ice. The children had an instructor who told them how to get up if they fell then went onto practising some movements. All the children said that they would love to try ice skating again and everyone finished with huge smiles on their faces. This was such a fun event and everyone (including Miss Robertson) had such a good time. Well done!

In this session, the children took part in a range of activities such as passing, shooting and dribbling. The aim was to improve their skills and get them engaged in hockey. They finished up with a mini game where you had to dribble the hockey balls into your base and then steal from the other teams when you were done - this was lots of fun!
