Summer 1 Week 3

Summer 1 - Week 3

This week, our Year 1 pupils have had a fantastic time! They jumped into their very own “time machine” to learn about chronology and discovered just how long ago the Great Fire of London took place. This built on their previous learning, where they plotted historic events like Neil Armstrong’s moon landing on a timeline, helping them understand the order of events in the past.

In addition to their historical adventures, the pupils got creative in art, experimenting with different mixed media to decide what they would like to use in their final piece. Their artistic exploration sparked imagination and excitement throughout the week.

English was full of fiery inspiration as well! The children wrote and published their own poems about fire, using vibrant adjectives and exciting past tense verbs to bring their ideas to life.

Calverley Wood Walk

This week Year 1 also went of their second walk of the year. This time they headed off to Calverley woods where they were treated to a beautiful display of the signs of Spring. These included, blossom, trees bursting into leaf, carpets of blue bells and fragrant wild garlic. They spotted two of their adopted trees from forest school sessions (silver birch and Holly) and were delighted to see the Holly in flower and the silver birch showing off its catkins. The children spotted many human and physical features on the walk further reviewing their knowledge from geography lessons this year.
