The great fire of London
This week Year 1 had a special visitor who spent the whole day teaching them about the Great fire of London where it started, why is spread so fast and so far, and also about how the houses of the time were built.
The children had the opportunity to look at Tudor houses, draw, design and make their own using cereal boxes and then at the end of the day they were able to see how the fir spread using their own box houses to make a model Tudor street. The children were fascinated by the fire and how it spread so quickly destroying all the houses.
Forest school:
This week in forest school the children learnt facts about our three focus animals the fox, red squirrel and wood mouse. The children found all the facts in the woodland and sorted them into groups for each animal.
They then began work on a dead hedge which involved fallen branches, grasses and pieces of wood being stacked in a row to create a barrier made of natural materials. The forms a hedge that will be the perfect habitat for bugs insects and small mammals like the wood mouse. The children had the chance to use the mallets to drive in the poles and also to forage and gather wood for the structure.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
