Summer 2 Week 4 26/6/26

Hello!

This week in reception the children have learned the story of The Three Little Pigs in their final Talk 4 Writing unit. They have learnt the story with actions and have drawn story maps to help them retell the story. The children have particularly enjoyed the repeated refrains in the story such as ‘Little pig, little pig, let me come in.’ ‘Not by hairs on my chinny chin chin, I’ll not let you in.’ ‘Then I’ll huff and I’ll puff and I’ll blow your house down!’ The children have created paintings and models inspired by this traditional tale.

In maths we have been using the rekenreks to compare amounts. We have also been learning about numbers past 10 and how teen numbers are made up of one full ten and extra ones. The children have used numicon and have identified numerals to match representations of the amounts. Here is an interactive numicon programme that your child can use to make up numbers to 20: https://mathsbot.com/manipulatives/numberFrames

The children also had a very exciting day on Thursday when they moved up to their next class for the day. They enjoyed spending time in their new classrooms and getting to know the staff in Year 1.

Next week we will be learning about maps and using beebots to get from one location to another. Here is an interactive beebot programme to have a go at before using the real things next week: https://beebot.terrapinlogo.com/

In maths we will be continuing to deepen our understanding of numbers by exploring composition of numbers to 10 and beyond.

Next week looks cooler but it is still sunny so please ensure your child has sun cream applied, a sun hat and a water bottle each day.

Have a lovely weekend,

The Reception Team
