Summer 2 Week 5

This week, 1BW started their week off with a trip to Harlow Carr, where they took part in a workshop about the signs of the seasons, got to plant some seeds and make a petal book mark.

In maths this week, we have continued learning about money and have now learnt the names of the notes and started to count coins. We linked this to our previous learning of counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

In English, we recapped adding the suffixes s/es to nouns to make plurals and also learnt about syllables in words. We learnt that a syllable is like a beat of a sound in a word. We played a game where we had to clap and count the syllables in different modes of transport and then list them in the correct space on our whiteboard.

In Science, we recapped our knowledge of evergreen and deciduous trees and learnt about what the leaves look like. Evergreen leaves are often thicker, waxy, smooth or spiky and the leaves from deciduous trees are usually wider, flatter and thinner with noticeable veins. We sorted leaves before going on a tree hunt to see whether the school grounds have more evergreen trees or deciduous trees. I wonder which you think had the most?

In DT, the children got to prepare and make their very own fruit salads being careful to follow food hygiene procedures and the correct cutting techniques. They agreed that they were delicious.

1BW also got to go outside for forest schools and make their bubble wands with Mrs Bennett this week.
