We have had another fantastic week in Year 2!
2C thoroughly enjoyed their school visit to Cartwright Hall, where they explored some of Hockney’s artwork and experimented with techniques inspired by him, including sketching, printing and using iPads to create their own pieces. To top off a wonderful day, the children also had time to enjoy Lister Park!
In Maths, we have continued our learning about fractions. This week, the children were introduced to quarters and learned how to identify quarters as well as find a quarter of a number. The classes took part in lots of hands-on practical activities before confidently applying their new knowledge to complete written challenges independently.
In Writing, we have continued exploring the animation Something Fishy. Our focus this week has been on using verbs and adverbs within sentences and we have been incredibly impressed by the ambitious vocabulary used across the year group. The children also incorporated conjunctions into their writing to expand their ideas and add further detail to their sentences.
We were also very lucky to be visited by author and illustrator Claire Powell, who inspired the children with her work and gave them the opportunity to try creating their own illustrations.
In Science, we explored food chains and created our own examples, carefully considering each stage and how living things depend on one another within a habitat.
