Summer 2 Week 5 3.7.26

Hello!

This week in reception we have been learning about maps. The children have learnt what a map is for and have looked at a range of different maps. They have discussed the difference between a flat map and a globe and which they prefer and why. The children have been creating their own maps using a range of resources, including paint, collage and drawing materials. They have created 3D maps using resources in the classroom for the Beebots to follow a series of instructions and move in different directions.

Here is an Interactive Beebot to programme to move in different directions: https://beebot.terrapinlogo.com/

In maths we have continued to explore teen numbers, learning about how teen numbers are made from a full ten and extra ones. You can use the Interactive Numicon to make teen numbers: https://mathsbot.com/manipulatives/numberFrames

We have also recapped using die frames and rekenreks to make a variety of numbers to 10. Here is a link to Interactive Die Frames: https://mathsbot.com/manipulatives/hungarianFrame and an Interactive Rekenrek: https://mathsbot.com/manipulatives/rekenrek so you can explore numbers at home with these methods.

Next week we will be talking about moving on as part of our transition into Year 1. The children will be thinking about what makes them special, thinking about what they are good at and considering what they would like to continue to develop in Year 1. They will think about their wishes and hopes for Year 1. They will continue to have opportunities to meet with their new class teachers to share stories, chat and play.

Next week in maths we will be representing numbers from 10-20, recapping doubles and exploring number patterns.

Please continue to ensure your child has a sun hat, sun cream and water each day.

Have a lovely weekend,

The Reception Team
