Hello!
This week in reception we had our Sports Day. The children had been practising lots for this event and they were very excited to show their amazing skills in running, jumping and balancing. The children were fantastic on the day and did their very best, supporting each other and being ready, respectful and kind throughout. Thank you so much for all the support on the day. We hope you enjoyed your morning of spectating (and for some of you participating too!)
In maths we have been identifying number patterns past 20. We have been arranging objects to help us to see how many when the amount is less than 10. We have been arranging objects to count and check when the amount is more than 10. At home, you could ask your child to count out objects such as spoons from the cutlery drawer or socks in the washing pile. Can they arrange them into rows or groups to help them to count or see how many.
We have continued to make our moving vehicles, painting, cutting and sticking and next week we will be adding the wheels!
Next week in maths we will be investigating more than, fewer than and equal to using the rekenreks.
We will be learning the story of The Three Little Pigs in our final Talk for Writing unit, where the children will learn the story by heart, learn actions to retell the story and create story maps. They will write parts of the story using their amazing phonic knowledge.
On Thursday, the children will be moving up into Year 1 for the day. They have had a taster of Year 1 this week, going into the classroom when the Year 1s were out doing their Sports Day. The children enjoyed exploring and noticing things that were similar and different to their reception classroom. On Thursday they will spend all day in Year 1, finding out more and getting to know their new teachers.
Next week is forecast very hot and sunny. Please ensure your child has sun cream applied before school, a sun hat and a bottle of water each day.
We hope you have a lovely weekend.
