It has been a fantastic start to the half term in Year 3, with lots of curiosity and active learning across the curriculum!
In Reading, the children arrived to a mystery and had to use clues to work out our new class book. They were very excited to discover it is Alice's Adventures in Wonderland! The children loved using their prediction skills and are already looking forward to diving into this classic story.
In Writing, the focus has been on learning how to use apostrophes for omission and possession. The children took part in a range of practical activities, including becoming ‘contraction surgeons’, where they carefully “operated” on words to create contractions. These hands-on activities made grammar fun and memorable.
In Geography, the children learnt about mountains, including how they are formed and what mountain ranges are. They then used atlases to locate mountain ranges across the world. The class was particularly fascinated by finding the tallest mountains on the map and discovering just how high they are!
In Science, the children became geologists as they investigated different types of rocks. Using a classification key, they worked scientifically to identify rocks and created word banks to describe their different properties.
In PE, the children began their new skipping unit. They learnt a range of skills including the single bounce, double bounce, hop and swap and the partner double bounce. They also enjoyed playing Keeping the Pot Boiling with the large skipping rope, developing coordination and teamwork.
It has been a wonderful week of exploration, practical learning and enthusiasm in Year 3!
