Summer 1 Week 5

This week, the children all did us very proud performaing in the Year 1 Assembly. They sang and spoke beautifully and we were all really impressed with how they brought the great firs of London to life through their dance and movement.

In Art this week, the children worked really hard to complete their mixed media art pieces depicting the Great Fire of London. They looked really effective and we were proud of their creativity.

In maths, they continued learning about fractions. This time quarters! This is always a difficult concept for the children and they did lots of practical activities to support their understanding before having a go at their maths booklets.

In writing, the children began learning about the prefix 'un' and the suffixes 'er/est'. We talked about 'un' meaning the opposite and the children had to find a word around the classroom and write the 'un' opposite onto their whiteboards.

e.g. kind - unkind

      tidy - untidy

We talked about comparing things using er/est such as fast, faster, fastest and the children had a go at inventing their own sentences to compare things.
