Year 2 have had another fantastic week of learning and achievement.
Sports Day
On Wednesday, the children enjoyed taking part in our annual Sports Day. They had lots of fun competing in a variety of races and taking part in a carousel of sporting activities led by our Year 6 Sports Leaders. We were incredibly proud of all the children for demonstrating excellent sportsmanship, regardless of where they finished in their races. They showed great determination, resilience and teamwork throughout the day and were wonderful ambassadors for Year 2.
Writing
In Writing, we have continued our work on Flotsam. The children have been developing their sentence-writing skills by using adjectives to create expanded noun phrases based on the illustrations from the story. They carefully selected descriptive vocabulary to add detail and interest to their writing before extending their ideas into complete sentences. The children worked hard to ensure their sentences were grammatically correct and included all the key features needed for effective writing.
History
In History, the children have been researching why people in the past chose to holiday at the seaside and how they travelled there. We learned that the invention of the railway made seaside trips much more accessible, as train travel was relatively cheap and allowed more people the freedom to visit coastal towns. The children also explored Victorian beliefs about health and discovered that many people visited the seaside because they thought the fresh sea air and seawater had important health benefits.
