Summer 2 Week 1 5/06/26

This week has been packed with exciting learning experiences!

We launched our new topic, 'Toys' with a wonderful trip to Abbey House Museum. The children had a fantastic time exploring toys from the past and were fascinated to discover that many of the toys they play with today did not exist many years ago. They enjoyed comparing old and new toys and learning about how play has changed over time.

Back in the classroom, our learning continued to focus on toys. The children had the opportunity to play with a range of old-fashioned toys and were very interested in seeing some of the toys that their teacher enjoyed playing with when they were younger. We also shared our favourite toys with the class and practised our speaking and listening skills by explaining why they are special to us.

In Maths, we have introduced rekenreks and shown the children how to use them to support their counting and number work. The children have enjoyed exploring this new resource and are becoming increasingly confident using it.

We have also been busy practising for Sports Day, working on our running, balancing and teamwork skills in preparation for the big event. On Friday, the whole school took part in a fun run. The children had a brilliant time running alongside their friends and collecting sponsors to help raise money. Thank you to everyone who supported the event and sponsored the children.

This week, children will be bringing home a sheet containing the Speedy Green Words and Story Green Words from their next reading book. Practising these words regularly at home will help to improve their reading fluency, confidence and speed, allowing them to focus more on understanding the story. Please spend some time reading through these words with your child throughout the week to help them become more familiar with them before we begin our new book.
