Summer 1 Week 2

Summer 1 Week 2

It has been another exciting and hands-on week in Year 3!

In Writing, the children continued developing their understanding of apostrophes for omission and possession. They then planned a detailed recount of Alice falling down the rabbit hole from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, carefully applying their knowledge of expanded noun phrases and adverbs to make their writing more descriptive and engaging.

In Maths, the children began their second unit on fractions. They learnt how to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator, before moving on to finding a fraction of a set of objects using a range of practical resources to support their understanding.

In Geography, the focus was on rivers. The children learnt how rivers are formed and explored their key features. They then took part in an exciting outdoor activity, solving riddles and following a map around the playground to identify different river features.

In Science, the children learnt about the three main types of rock: igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary. They took part in a fun, practical activity using Starburst sweets to model how each type of rock is formed. The class also visited Leeds Discovery Centre for a rocks and fossils workshop, where they explored a wide range of fascinating artefacts. The children were especially excited to see the bandages of Nesyamun, linking back to their previous learning about Ancient Egypt.

In PE, the children continued to develop their skipping skills, focusing this week on the side swing and big rope techniques, showing great coordination and determination.

It has been a fantastic week full of exploration, creativity and enthusiasm in Year 3!
