Spring 1 Week 3

Spring 1 Week 3

There is no such thing as a quiet week in Year 6! We have had another fun-filled week of learning, trips and vegan cheese...

6B have headed off to Ripon to visit the Police and Prison Museum, spending the day immersing themselves in our Crime and Punishment topics. Children spent time touring the cells, learning about transportation and role-playing a real-life case from Victorian Britain. There were some fierce poachers and some even fiercer police officers amongst us! The afternoon was then spent in the Courthouse Museum where children got to take on the role of lawyers, judges, criminals, witnesses and jurors, taking part in a mock trial which followed the exact same structure of the trials that had happened in that very same courtroom in real life. It was a fantastic experience to enhance our learning.

Whilst 6B were off in Ripon, 6F were immersing themselves in our DT topic focussing on vegan cooking. They spent the day researching all about veganism, discussing the reasons some people choose to follow a vegan diet, the research behind both health and environmental issues relating to this lifestyle and looking at famous chef's who have included vegan menus within their restaurants. It was then time to discuss the substitutions vegans make within their diet and we taste tested a range of vegan products, comparing them to their non-vegan counterparts. There were certainly mixed reviews with soya-based chocolate pudding and vegan chocolate buttons rating much, much higher than vegan cheese and 'chicken' substitutions!

Alongside all of this, we have continued with our outdoor learning, dodged the weather in PE, carried on with our Spanish curriculum, read more about Stanley and the campers in Holes, written our letters of complaint to the Warden and finishing our ratio work in maths ready to move onto new learning - algebra!

As always, year 6 have applied themselves brilliantly to their learning and should be very proud of themselves. It's hard to believe we are already almost half way through Year 6 - time really does fly when you're having fun!
