Week 3 (Sum 1 Wk 1) 20.04.20-24.04.20

Monday 20th April 2020

Welcome back Year 2! We trust you have had a lovely Easter break at home and enjoyed some downtime with your families. The weather has been beautiful and has certainly helped to lift our spirits whilst spending time in the garden or on our daily walks.

Our home learning journey looks set to continue for the coming weeks and there is a slight change in the way we are going to set work for the children. First and foremost, please continue with a daily PE lesson (Joe Wicks) and time on TTRS, Numbots, Phonics Play and Busy Things. We will also be setting work on My Maths but will be in touch shortly to give you further details about this. From today, BBC Bitesize are also providing regular daily lessons for all year groups. The Bitesize website is well regarded and the BBC have worked with a range of education experts to ensure the resources are of the highest standard.

One of the most important and beneficial learning activities you can do with your child is to engage them in some form of reading everyday, which may take many different forms. E.g. child reading independently, child reading to grown up/sibling, grown up/sibling reading to child or listening to an audio story (David Walliams or Mr Chapman are our favourites). If your child returns to school with improved fluency or increased confidence in their reading then we will be more than happy!

In addition, we will also be providing a 'Weekly Home Learning Grid' on our school website. This is completely optional but offers some extra tasks for those parents and children who may require a bit more structure and guidance with their home learning. The grid contains fifteen tasks which cover a range of subjects and do not require any printing out. The idea is that you and your child can choose which tasks they would like to complete over the course of the week and that they can be completed at their own pace. The amount of time sitting and working on a task will vary from child to child but we suggest 30-45 minutes and they can always come back to a task if they need a movement or snack break! The number of tasks your child completes in one week will be completely dependent on your circumstances. Remember there is no expectation to share any of this work with us so please be flexible and realistic about what you and your child can achieve. To open a hyperlink on the Weekly Grid (blue underlined text), move your cursor over the word, press Ctrl and click. If the hyperlink does not work, have a look on the weekly page on the website as most of the files can be found there too.

Please contact us by email if you have any questions or are struggling with any aspects of the home learning and please continue to send in photos of your children’s work so we can celebrate their efforts by uploading their work to the website.

Happy learning!

Mrs Simmonds, Mrs Darlison and Miss Lockwood
