Autumn 1 Week 2

What a busy and exciting second week we have had in Year 5! The children have continued to settle brilliantly into their new routines and have shown great enthusiasm for their learning across the curriculum. 🌟

In Reading, we launched our new class book, The Explorer. The children were introduced to this exciting adventure story and began exploring the characters, setting and events. We are looking forward to seeing where the story takes us! πŸ“–πŸŒΏ

In English, we have been learning about diary entries and exploring the features that make them engaging and effective. The children also developed their use of expanded noun phrases, using descriptive language to add detail and bring their writing to life. βœοΈπŸ“”

In Maths, we began our work on place value, exploring numbers up to 1,000,000. The children have been developing their understanding of the value of each digit and representing, reading and comparing increasingly large numbers. πŸ”’

In Geography, we began our map work on South America. The children explored the continent and practised identifying and locating its different countries, developing their geographical knowledge and map-reading skills. πŸŒŽπŸ—ΊοΈ

In PE, we had our first swimming lesson of Year 5! The children enjoyed getting into the pool and developing their swimming skills, building confidence and learning about water safety along the way. 🏊‍β™€οΈπŸŠ‍♂️

During Outdoor Learning, we became scientists and investigated the force of gravity. The children explored what happens when different-sized weights are dropped from a height, making observations and thinking carefully about the forces acting on the objects. It was a fantastic hands-on investigation! πŸƒβš–οΈ

Another fantastic week in Year 5 — we are incredibly proud of the children's determination, curiosity and hard work. We can't wait to see what Week 3 brings! 🌟
