Autumn 1 Week 2

The children have had another fantastic week in Year 2 and are continuing to settle well into our routines and expectations. We have continued to embed what respect looks like in our classroom and around school, thinking carefully about how we can show respect to others. We have also been practising active listening, focusing on positive body language and tracking the speaker to show that we are listening carefully and respectfully.

In maths, we have continued our learning around place value and have been developing our understanding of numbers up to 100. The children have been working hard to partition numbers in different ways and explain their thinking, showing increasing confidence when working with tens and ones.

In writing, we have used The Lion Inside as a stimulus for developing our sentence writing. The children have been learning that a sentence can be constructed using a noun and a verb, they have then begun adding adjectives to make their sentences more interesting and descriptive. We have been really impressed with the children's creativity and enthusiasm when choosing vocabulary to bring their sentences to life.

We have also begun our exciting new art project! The children discovered the fascinating life and work of Pop artist Andy Warhol. We explored some of his artwork and learned about the screen-printing technique that he famously used. Using the information we researched, the children then created their own artist studies in their sketchbooks, recording interesting facts and exploring Warhol's distinctive style.
