Autumn 1 Week 3

We have had another busy week in Year 2. The children are following our school rules ‘Ready, Respectful, Kind’ brilliantly.

In maths we have continued our learning in Place Value. This week we have been partitioning a 2-digit number into tens and ones. We have been practising this skill with numerals and words. We have also noticed that a number can be partitioned in many different ways and have used base 10 to show different ways a 2-digit number can be partitioned.

In writing we have used the book ‘Don’t Look in This Book’ as a writing stimulus. We have focused on the skill of asking a question and writing one using the correct punctuation. We have also used the fun illustrations to think of adjectives and put these into expanded noun phrases to add extra information to our writing.

In Geography, we have compared an aerial photograph of our playground and the area surrounding school. We noticed that maps are simple versions of a photographs and that maps help us to plan a route or find where places are. We looked at different symbols on a map and found their meaning in key. We then used a map of our school to complete a treasure hunt, we had to use a key to find the meaning of the playground map symbols.
