Autumn 1 Week 6

What a wonderful week it has been in Year 5! 🌟 The children have been busy exploring new ideas, developing their skills and making the most of every opportunity to learn. There has been lots of excitement, teamwork and plenty of practical learning along the way!

In Outdoor Learning, we have been exploring the force of friction. 🛷🔬 The children investigated how different materials affect friction by testing them on a sledge before putting their ideas to the test by riding down a slide! They made predictions, observed what happened and discussed why some materials allowed the sledge to move more easily than others. It was fantastic to see our scientific learning come to life through such a fun investigation!

On Monday, some of our Year 5 children proudly represented Springbank at the cross-country event. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ They showed fantastic determination, resilience and sportsmanship throughout the event, and we were incredibly proud of how they represented our school. A huge well done to everyone who took part!

In Maths, we have been exploring fact families and the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction. 🔢 The children have been learning how knowing one calculation can help us work out others, as well as using the inverse operation to check their answers. They have worked hard to explain their reasoning and have enjoyed spotting the connections between related calculations.

In English, we have been preparing for our upcoming jungle narratives. 🌴🐒 This week, we have been looking at how we can turn narrative into speech, exploring how characters can communicate with one another and how dialogue can bring a story to life. The children have been developing their ideas and are now ready to put their skills into practice as they begin writing their own jungle narratives next week. We can't wait to see where their imaginations take them!

In Geography, we have begun exploring the rainforests of the world. 🌎🌴 The children have been developing their map skills by locating some of the world's major rainforests and thinking about where they are found around the globe. We have been making links between location and the different environments in which rainforests exist.

Another fantastic week in Year 5! We are so proud of the way the children continue to throw themselves into their learning, whether they are investigating forces, challenging themselves in sport or developing their creativity through writing. We are looking forward to another exciting week, especially as we begin creating our very own jungle adventures! 🌟
