Year 3 have had another jam packed week, taking part in their first walk of the year and beginning their second writing unit!
On Monday and Tuesday, the children took part in their very first walk of the year, doing a 5km circular route that took in Hawksworth Wood, crossing a railway bridge and walking alongside both the canal and the river! The children not only showed lots of determination as they took on the long walk but also lots of curiosity about the things that they were seeing around them!
In maths this week the children have completed their final place value lessons by looking at comparing and ordering 3-digit numbers and revisiting something which we had found a little difficult last week, number lines! The children have done brilliantly with this whole unit and although it is now time to move on to addition and subtraction, we will continue to revise and revisit elements of place value to make sure that this is consolidated. In our times table sessions this week the children have continued to consolidate their knowledge on their 2s, 5s and 10s in preparation for us moving on to the 3 times table today and next week.
We launched our second writing unit last Friday when the children learnt the importance of being really clear and putting events in a chronological order when giving instructions after our 'how to make a jam instructions' went very wrong! We've spent time this week learning about time adverbs and imperative verbs and Miss Connell and I have definitely learnt that our classes can be very bossy when they want to be!
In reading, the children have been using non-fiction texts - an information text about Stone Age houses and a non-fiction picture book about Stonehenge - to learn more about life in the Stone Age. The children have really enjoyed reading these texts and it has been lovely to see just how curious the children were about their learning from all of the questions that they asked!
In our wider curriculum this week, the children have learnt how to ask someone how they are feeling in Spanish, how to give clear instructions when using a digital assistant in computing and how to work as a team when playing dodgeball in PE.
