This week in Year 2, we have been developing our addition and subtraction skills in Maths. The children have been learning how to add and subtract multiples of 10 up to 100, using their knowledge of number bonds to 10 to support their calculations. We then moved on to learning how to add across the next ten by making a ten and adding the remainder. This is an important strategy to master as it helps the children to calculate mentally with greater speed and accuracy.

In Writing, we have been building our diary-writing skills using the story Violet the Pilot. The children practised using conjunctions to explain feelings, helping them to give reasons and add more detail to their sentences. We then used these skills to write a paragraph of a diary entry from Violet’s perspective, thinking carefully about how she might have felt during her adventures.

In History, we have been learning about chronology and the order of significant events in the history of flight. Working in groups, the children recalled important facts about key events and shared their knowledge with the rest of the class. This helped us to develop our understanding of how flight has changed over time and how important events and achievements have shaped the history of aviation.
