Does surface area affect air resistance? 23.09.19

Year five continued their learning about forces today by looking at air resistance. Following on from discussions, we began to think about how air resistance could be used in the form of parachutes. We looked at what would make the best parachute and which would make you hit the ground at the slowest speed. The children worked in groups to make parachutes of varying sizes. We then went to the library and dropped them from a height so that we could time which one hit the ground at the slowest speed.
