Summer 2 Week 2 16.6.23

Hello!

This week we have continued with our minibeasts topic. The children have enjoyed using the magnifying glasses to look for more minibeasts in our garden and they have been completing some wonderful bug factfile pieces of writing. We have learnt about useful minibeasts such as bees. We have learnt about spiders and different types of spiders around the world.

We have also learnt about the abstract artist Paul Klee. The children have been using pastels and dark paper to create some wonderful artwork in the style of Paul Klee’s ‘Castle and Sun’.

Next week we will be doing our final Talk 4 Writing unit based on the story of The Three Little Pigs. The children will be learning the story off by heart with actions too. They will be having a go at writing the story themselves too using their fantastic phonic knowledge.

This week in maths the children have been identifying odd and even numbers and using pairing to find whether a number is odd or even. They have created their own odd monsters and have played finding pairs games and seeing if there is an odd one out.

Next week in maths the children will be doing lots of problem solving activities, finding missing numbers and combining amounts. We will be estimating and halving numbers too.

We have been learning to recite the poem ‘Bed in Summer’ by Robert Louis Stevenson and we have been talking about different seasons and how the sunlight hours change.

Please continue to send in sun hats, apply sun cream and provide your child with a water bottle each day as they weather continues to be warm and sunny.

We hope you have a lovely weekend,

The Reception Team
