Tree Planting and Wildlife Garden
As part of Science Week, Y6 were involved in planting 4 mature fruit trees, preparing an area for wildflower planting under existing new trees and creating a wildlife habitat. The children were divided into 3 groups:
Group One were digging and planting the trees, using spades and boarder forks.
Group Two were clearing grass away from newly planted trees in readiness for wildflower planting, using rakes and handforks.
Group Three created a wildlife habitat making logpiles, an insect hotel etc, using secateurs and broddles. The children were told that this activity was extremely important for the environment as planting trees decreases global warming and creating more wildlife garden environments encourages pollinating insects for the fruit trees. A huge thank you to Mrs Fletcher who organised this activity and to the children who worked hard to improve and help our local and school environment.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
