Week 2 30.03.20

Friday 3rd April 2020

Good morning year 4 and happy friday! We are now onto day 10 of home learning, and we are so proud of all your efforts so far.

Today in writing, you will be writing a story, using "Follow me!" she whispered as your first sentence. Wherever you take the story, it is completely up to you! Remember to make sure there is a clear beginning, middle and end, that you have used a range of sentence openers and that you have made it interesting and engaging by using a range of descriptive language (similies, metaphors, expanded noun phrases, personification etc). Once you have finished your story, make sure you then do your daily 15 minutes on Spelling Shed.

In reading, you will need to complete the comprehension task about Icarus, a character from Greek Mythology who was the son of the master craftsman Daedalus, the creator of the Labyrinth. I have uploaded a powerpoint below that you can read through, as well as reading the text provided to help you with the understanding of the story.

In Maths today, you will be recapping on division using the part-part whole model, the method we were practicing lots most recently in school. Make sure that when you are dividing using this method, once you have partitioned the number, you pull out 10 lots of the divisor first! When you have finished your maths work, you will need to do your 15 minutes of TTRS to make sure you have got in some practice of your times tables!

Very, very well done for all the hard work you have all put in over the past 2 weeks! You're all doing so well and we, as your teachers, are very proud of you!

Look after yourselves and keep up the hard work!

The Story of Icarus

Resources to help with story writing

Thursday 2nd April 2020

Good morning, year 4. I hope you're all well and enjoying the tasks that have been set for you this week. It has been lovely to see so many of you sending in pictures of what you have been up to and the super work that you have been producing.

Today in writing, you will need to write a diary entry. You will be writing from the point of view of Theseus and it doesn't need to be any longer than 2 paragraphs. I have uploaded some extra resources to help you. When you have finished your piece, make sure you go back and edit with COGS! As well as this, make sure you do your daily 15 minutes on Spelling Shed.

In maths, in progression from yesterday, you are going to be multiplying 3-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers. Make sure you remember your place value knowledge and always start in the ones column and work your way to the left! After doing this worksheet, you will need to do 15 minutes on TTRS to keep up your practice of your times tables!

The final task today is to do the Trojan Horse activity. Before you do this, read through the powerpoint uploaded to learn about the the Trojan War.

Have fun and keep up the hard work - we are very proud of you all.

Key Features of Diary Writing

Wednesday 1st April 2020

Happy April 1st Year 4! It's been lovely to see so many of you emailing in with all of your wonderful work and letting us know that you are healthy and happy, please continue to do so so that we can continue to celebrate all this fantastic work!

In writing today, you are going to create your own comic strip version of Theseus and the Minotaur! Take some time to read the story of Theseus before starting your work. My top tip for retelling a story is to write down the six key events that happened in it so that you don't forget the key elements! For more information on how to draw a comic strip, watch the video I've posted below!

In Maths today, you are going to complete the multiplying 2 digit numbers by a 1 digit number sheet. Before you start, why don't you work your way through the Power Point below to remind yourself of how to do this?

Your reading work for today is the comprehension on Peter Pan, now I have heard that there was a little photocopying error on this one so please just do as much of it as you can!

Have another lovely day Year 4!

Good Morning Year 4! We have lots of interesting things that you can do today!

In maths, it is time to complete your column subtraction sheet and don't forget to go on TTRS. Congratulations to 4L who won the TTRS Year Group Battle last week, you did a fantastic job! Come on 4H, let's try to make a come back this week!

Today in writing, you are creating your own poem about the Greek Gods and Goddesses. It is up to you how you write the poem, you can make it rhyme if you like, make an acrostic poem or you could write it like a rap poem! If you think this is something you would like to do then take a look at the video under the sub-heading Writing for inspiration!

There is also a history task set for today, have a read through the Power Point which is attached below and then complete the worksheet in your pack. You should already know a little bit about democracy from our lesson about the government systems of Ancient Greece!

You are all doing so well and Miss Lax and myself are so proud of all the great work that you are doing. It is lovely to see this work so if you want to email us with anything you are proud of or would like some feedback on our email addresses are below.
