Our Week 02.12.22

Our Week

There has been lots going on in Year 5 this week including starting our exciting new DT project! Inspired by the children who created their own toys during World War One, the children have started to design a moving Christmas toy that they are going to make later on this half term! The children had lots of fun making paper cams and followers before creating a design that they thought would be fun for a small child!

The children have also continued to learn more about World War One in their history lesson this week where they followed one Farsley man, Ewart Bannister, from his home on Turner's Fold to the battlefields of the war. The children had to use all of their historical enquiry and source investigation skills to find out information about Ewart before piecing it all together to learn about his war story.

Finally, the children have also begun their Commando Joes journey as we completed our first mission this week. The mission was based on the story of Tim Peake so linked to our learning on Space from last half term. Commando Joes is based on the RESPECT motto (resilience, excellence, self-awareness, positivity, empathy, communication and team work) which the children all had to demonstrate throughout their task of creating a space suit!
