Where does the Amazon river go?

As part of our geography unit, this afternoon Year 5 looked at the Amazon river. 

We began the lesson by recapping the features of a river, including the source, mouth, meander and confluence. Once we understood the features, we looked at the Amazon river and the countries that it flowed through. We saw that it began in Peru and ended in Brazil, but that parts of the river flowed through Venezuela and Bolivia. 

The children then worked in pairs to recreate a map of the Amazon rainforest using tissue paper and card. They had to label the different features in a creative way - take a look at some of the excellent examples below!
