  • Year 3 Enterprise topic

    Mon 21 Jul 2014

Last Wednesday, to end their enterprise business topic, Year 3 held a lolly sale at playtime. All companies had their selling strategies planned and stall signs ready, with big ideas of making a lot of profit. There were 12 companies in total across the year group and all competed against each other to sell the greatest amount of lollies. Luck was on their side, the sun was shining brightly and the Springbankers were hot and thirsty for an icy treat! Each group were very professional with their customer service skills and handled taking money and giving change with confidence. The lollies were a sell out and everybody commented how delicious and refreshing they were!

The Year 3 children had lots of fun taking part and are proud of the profit they have made. We are now in talks about how we are going to spend our hard earned cash before the summer holidays.

Here are the first stage pictures from our summer Year 5 and 6 production of Ghostbusters. Both the Tuesday and Wednesday night shows sold out in record time so if you failed to get hold of one of the hottest tickets in town then you will just have to make do with these pictures following our dress rehearsal this morning.
  • Veg Box Competition- Great Yorkshire Show 2014

    Wed 09 Jul 2014

Once again, the children had worked hard on the design (choosing the theme of the Tour de France), sowing and planting the box and also writing up a diary of their work and ideas for the Veg Box Competition and we had been selected with 14 other schools as a finalist from the 200 schools who had entered the competition.

The children went to the Great Yorkshire Show on Wednesday, 9th July and, as part of the judging, had to be questioned about their horticultural skills by a famous garden writer, Martin Fish.  The children answered questions very proficiently and obviously knew their stuff.  The judges were very interested in the experiments which the children had undertaken to see how best we could keep slugs and snails off the veg plants.

After the judging the children were free to spend the rest of the day enjoying the show.  They watched some show jumping and a cattle show, enjoyed some cheese tasting and spent hours in the craft marquee making everything from bread to chocolate lollipops, lavender bags, corn dollies and recycled bracelets from old crisp packets!  Later on the children enjoyed sumo wrestling and an army problem solving course.

The sun shone all day and the children had a great time.  Sadly, we didn't win the Veg Box Competition this year, but we were highly commended for our entry and won "best decorated box" so we didn't do too badly!
