  • Reception win 'Best decorated tree' in local competition

    Fri 11 Dec 2015

Harron Homes donated a Christmas tree to our school because they were holding a competition for the “Best decorated tree” amongst the local schools.  We gave the donated Christmas tree to Reception and they put all their efforts into decorating it beautifully as you can see from the photograph.

Today we were delighted to find that we had won the competition! We will receive £500 to buy books for Reception which is great; we will be asking the Reception children for ideas about books they would like to have in school.

  • Leeds West Indoor Athetics Champions

    Fri 11 Dec 2015

The Springbank Year 6 athletics team yesterday completed an impressive hat-trick by winning the Leeds West Indoor Athletics Championships for an incredible third year in succession. Our athletes first took gold in the new form of the competition in the year following on from the London Olympics and since that time we have become the team to beat out of almost 140 schools in our local area. Thursday night's competition was one of the closest seen in recent times and our usual rivals, Lower Wortley and Southroyd, were in determined mood as they looked to take the trophy out of our hands. Fierce determination from the Springbank girls saw them, remarkably, win every single one of their races on the day - that included the race of the night where a dropped baton looked to have knocked us out of the hurdles relay only for the girls to fight their way back from fifth place to win outright! The boys were equally determined against some very talented athletes from other schools and won the majority of their races on the night. However, Lower Wortley produced some amazing performances in the field events, including two of the longest triple jumps ever recorded in primary school history, so we knew the final result would be tight. In the end Springbank took the title by just ten points and they will now go through to the finals against the best schools in the city to be held in January. Well done athletes - as always you have done us proud!

  • 'All About Christmas' Reception's production

    Thu 10 Dec 2015
We held our first ever Reception Christmas production this week ‘All About Christmas’ and it was absolutely brilliant!  All the children played their parts so well: the mince pies, Santa and his reindeer, the shepherds, the animals, the 3 wise men, the presents, the fairies and the narrator elves.  The children (and staff) had obviously worked so hard learning the numerous songs and their lines.  For all the children it took real courage to stand on the stage singing, dancing and speaking in front of an audience of 170 adults so a big well done to all the Reception children.  Also a big thank you to all our Reception families for helping with the costumes (they all looked amazing!) and for coming to the performance to support the children; I know from the comments made that everyone enjoyed it and I hope it is something that will be fondly remembered for many years to come!  Don't forget to check out Reception Christmas Video which can be found in the Children's area in Creative ICT projects.
  • Hosanna Rock production by Year 3 and 4

    Wed 09 Dec 2015
Year 3 and 4 children have had an extremely busy week with a dress rehearsal and 2 evening performances; all of which were fantastic!  The children put on a great show; they spoke with loud, clear voices; they had obviously worked hard to learn all their lines and the dancing was great too.  I thought the singing this year was exceptional; the enthusiasm and effort all the children put into every song was brilliant.   Everyone in Year 3 and 4 played their part really well and such a great team effort resulted in performances that they can all be incredibly proud of.  Well done to all the children (and staff!)  Thank you to the parents and families for help with costumes, learning lines and coming along to enjoy the show.  I am sure it will have helped get everyone in the mood for Christmas!
