  • Big Leeds Book Swap

    Fri 06 Mar 2020
There were yet more World Book Day celebrations today as we took part in the Big Leeds Book Swap. Children were asked to bring in a book from home which was previously loved. The books were then collected in and today all those children were able to go and choose themselves something new to read from all the donations. This was a brilliant opportunity for the children to take home something new but it also helped us to do our part for the planet by recycling and reusing. As you will see from the photos, there were hundreds of books donated and swapped. In fact, so successful was the book swap that we have decided to make it a regular occurrence at Springbank! So look out for our next book swaps which will take place on the first Friday of each month, starting Friday, 3rd April 2020.
  • World Book Day

    Thu 05 Mar 2020
Today was the official celebration of World Book Day, although we have been unofficially celebrating for some time now. There has been lots of reading (which is what all good book days should be about!) but there was also a fantastic response from the children who dressed as their favourite book characters. An incredible selection of costumes and books were looked at in assembly where there was also a rather unexpected visit from the dancing T-Rex out of the book 'Dinosaurumpus'. Have a look at a selection of the photos to see the amazing imaginations of our fabulous children and their families.
  • Author Visit for World Book Day

    Wed 04 Mar 2020
This week saw celebrations for World Book Day in full flow as author Steve Webb came in to talk to children from both KS1 and KS2 about his life and inspirations as an author and illustrator. Steve, author of the Spangles McNasty series (which is also illustrated by friend of the school Chris Mould) certainly left his mark with lots of the children keen to get cracking with some creative writing of their own after the talk. The entertaining presentation involved lots of fun (and some wobbly singing!) as well as a whole host of advice about how to approach the daunting task of writing a story. We had a great time and some children were even lucky enough to get a book signed by Steve afterwards. We continue our World Book (Week) fun with dressing up day on Thursday when there will be lots of reading and activities and then on Friday we are taking part in the Big Leeds Book Swap, which should be a great opportunity for the children to get their teeth into some new reading.
