This week we were very lucky to have some visitors to help us learn more about our new topic, ‘What African wonders await?’. The children took part in both a drumming and a dance workshop, as well as learning more about the culture and geography of different African nations.
During the drumming workshop, the children were asked to listen to and follow patterns using their drums. They used phrases such as ‘chocolate cake’ and ‘fish & chips, woo-hoo’ to emphasise the different rhythms.
In the dance workshop, the children learned movements from traditional African dances and performed sequences of movements along to the music. At the very end, the children were brave enough to perform their drumming and dance routines to the new Reception children, who gave them a big thumbs up!
The children (and adults) all had a great time and it was a wonderful way to launch our new topic.
