Maths Multiplication & Division 30.04.21

In maths this week the children have begun learning about simple multiplication and division by counting in steps of 2s, 5s and 10s. They also have begun thinking about making equal groups and adding these equal groups together using repeated addition.

For example 2+2+2+2=8

These are important skills that will support them in learning their times tables as they progress through school.

Support your child at home by counting with them in 2s, 5s and 10s both forwards and even backwards (this is tricky!). You could ask them to make equal groups out of Lego or other types of toys. Identifying the amount of equal groups has been hard this week so encouraging the correct vocabulary is key. Groups can be anything such as dice, pencil pots, plates etc.

e.g. There are 5 equal groups of 2.

       There are 10 altogether

       2+2+2+2+2=10
