This week, Year 2 continued their learning about Florence Nightingale. They also learnt about Mary Seacole who was also a nurse during the Crimean war. Mary Seacole was also known as Mother Seacole because of her kind and caring nature. She was rejected by British authorities and Florence Nightingale in 1854 to nurse and so paid for her own passage to the Crimea. Year 2 compared the lives of Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole. They understood that Mary Seacole used all her own money to help the poor and did not receive the same help that Florence received. The classes drew Venn Diagrams on their tables and sorted out the facts.
