Summer 2 Week 4
28.6.24
Hello!
This week the children have been reviewing lots of previous learning in maths, such as composition of numbers (how they are made up). The children are using different apparatus to show their understanding of how numbers within 10 can be made. This will support their fluency and ability to mentally add and subtract. We have been looking at groups of objects and noticing how the amount has been made up. At home you can practise number composition by arranging a set of objects into 2 groups or more, then discussing how many are in each group.
In Talk 4 Writing we have been learning to retell the story of The Three Little Pigs. We have created a whole class story map to support the children with writing their own versions of the story. The children have used their phonic knowledge to write sections of story using key vocabulary. We have been very impressed with the children’s writing! They have all been very eager to rewrite their own version of the story and have shown brilliant perseverance.
Next week in maths we will continue to review learning on number combinations to 10.
In Understanding the World, we will be thinking of where Farsley is in the world. This is something you can be chatting about at home. Using Google Earth is a great tool for looking at the world and identifying where England is. We will be learning about maps and how they are representations of a place. The children will be learning about simple symbols that represent places on a map. You could discuss your child’s journey to school and the places they pass on the way.
On Wednesday we had great fun at the farm! The day was actioned packed; the children had the opportunity to give milk to lambs, had their own box of carrots to feed the other farm animals, went on a tractor ride, brushed the rabbits and guinea pigs and used the fantastic play areas. We were all very tired by the end of the day after an enjoyable day out.
Just a reminder to apply suncream before school and make sure your child has their sunhat and water each day if the forecast is going to be sunny and warm.
