Maths 10.11.21

Addition and subtraction:

Over the last couple of weeks, the children in year 3 have been working really hard on using formal written methods of columnar addition and subtraction.

As a class, we came up with some important rules when attempting column addition and subtraction: estimate the answer to a calculation first, always start with your ones, always check whether it is addition or subtraction, always line your numbers up in the correct place value position and finally, always use inverse operations to check answers!

Below, we have popped on some questions that you could challenge your child at home with and some useful links in case they need a quick reminder of the method. We assure you, you'll be blown away!

541 + 45 =

129 + 231 =

994 - 123 =

432 - 126 =
