Summer 2 Week 5 5.7.24

Hello!

This week we have been learning about maps. The children have learnt about what a map shows and how a map uses simple symbols to represent places. They have explored a range of maps from different books and stories and have created their own too. We went into the playground to draw our own maps and thought about the position of where the items are in relation to each other.

Next week in Understanding the World our focus will be around transition. We will be thinking about what makes us special and talking about how changes make us feel. We will be thinking about what we are good at, what we need more support with and talking about our hopes and wishes for the future in Year 1.

In maths we have been recapping our learning on making numbers within 10. This is supporting the children to become more fluent with number bonds, helping them to calculate quickly and efficiently. We are using lots of visuals so the child can notice amounts within numbers. They are using subitising skills to notice smaller amounts and then adding them together to find a total.

Next week in maths we will be using our number knowledge to problem solve. The children will be finding missing numbers using their adding and subtraction skills. We will also be working logically to find many ways of making an amount.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.
